Taos Youth Flight Rally:  Taos area youth ages 8-17 will have a chance to take to the skies on Saturday, September 10, 2022, for the 12th Annual Taos Youth Flight Rally at the Taos Regional Airport.

The Taos Youth Flight Rally event is brought to you by Taos Local Pilots, Taos Aviation Services, Taos Regional Airport, Town of Taos Visitor Center and Town of Taos Community Events.  This event was created to interest our youth in aviation.  We hope to build one-on-one relationships between our Taos Local Pilots and young people, giving new generations a chance to learn more about the possibilities that exist in the world of aviation.

Pilots will give free airplane rides at the event and will explain more about their airplanes allowing young people to discover how airplanes work and how pilots ensure each flight is conducted in a safe manner.  Pilots volunteer their time, fuel and aircraft so the flights can be provided free of charge for interested young people.  Flights will begin at approximately 7:30 AM through 11:00 AM.

Registration forms need to be picked up, completed, and returned to the Town of Taos Visitor Center located at 1201 Paseo del Pueblo Sur by Friday, September 2, 2022.  The Town of Taos Visitor Center is open Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

A drawing will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2022.  Seventy (70) participants selected at random will be contacted on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, to schedule a flight time.

All youth must be pre-registered and accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.  This event is weather permitting and depends on pilot availability.

Movies on the Green Community Day  The Town of Taos presents Movies on the Green Community Day along with LOR Foundation, Taos Public Library, Friends of the Taos Public Library, Youth & Family Center and the Taos News.  We will be hosting the first annual Movies on the Green Community Day, a family-focused event to celebrate our community, on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Historic Kit Carson Park located at 211 Paseo del Pueblo Norte.

Movies on the Green Community Day is a part of Movies on the Green weekly program which provides our community family-oriented movies on the Video Wall.  This is an alcohol-free event.

A special guest appearance from Clifford the Big Red Dog, the American children’s book series about the adventures of a precocious girl named Emil Elizabeth and her titular pet, a giant, red-furred dog name Clifford.  Clifford is known for the great stories and learning activities that help youth learn to read and enjoy reading.

Bring the kids to visit Clifford! Clifford, with help from our very own Mayor Maestas and Sonya Struck, LOR Foundation Taos Community Officer, will be handing out 200 Clifford Reading Books to the community youth attending the event! Taos Academy Charter High School Student Advisory Council will provide a photo opportunity with Clifford. If you would like a 4 x 6 photo, the cost will be $3.00.

Live music by local talent Gabriella Salazar y Su Grupo Concepto on the George Chacon Stage from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and the movie Clifford The Big Red Dog showing at 7:30 PM on the Video Wall.  Short films from students of Film Prize Junior New Mexico will screen before the movie.  Community exhibits will be set up with information, games, fundraising, etc., including a Meet and Greet with Little Miss Rodeo NM, Olivia Tafoya.  Come and enjoy the offerings of: Taos High School Cheer and Loteria Paleteria Local food vendors

If you are an organization or business, it is not too late to reserve your FREE exhibit space.  Community Day is a day for our community.  We are inviting our community, local businesses, organizations, churches, charities and the school district to have booths that include information, activities, crafts, etc. Local charities and organizations rely on community events to help them gain exposure and aid their fundraising efforts. This event will also be great publicity for local businesses.  Sign up early to secure your exhibit booth space as applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.  Application deadline is July 26, 2022.

Together as a community we want the first annual Movies on the Green Community Day to be remembered, where our youth will have great memories of visits with Clifford and will have pictures and their own reading book.  Other memories will be watching the movie on the Video Wall, the entertainment, spending time with friends, family and our community!    We strongly feel this event will be a huge success and are planning on scheduling the Movies on the Green Community Day once a month next season.

Note the time change of the movie Clifford The Big Red Dog showing starts at 7:30 PM instead of its regular scheduled time during Movies on the Green.

2022 Bike Rodeo

The Town of Taos and Field Institute of Taos present the 2022 Bike Rodeo along with Kit Carson Electric Cooperative, Taos Cyclery and Walmart.  We will be hosting the second annual Bike Rodeo to promote safe riding practices for our community youth.  This FREE community-wide event is for youth 17 and under and will take place on Sunday, June 12, 2022, from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the Taos Police Department located at 400 Camino de la Placita.

The goal is to provide our community with a fun, safe, and supervised bike rodeo for youth and promote cycling for fun, transportation, safe biking practices, skills and fitness. Statistics reveal that many young people are involved in bicycle-related crashes. We need to find ways to ensure that our participants are better informed about road safety. We hope to successfully convey this type of message to the participants during the 2022 Bike Rodeo. Riding safely is fun.  This event will expose the participants to the skills they need to be safe cyclists.

All participants must complete required forms at the Registration booth.  All youth must be registered and accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Parents, please bring your children’s bikes and helmets as there will be a limited number of bikes available for youth to borrow so they can participate.  Bikes and helmets will be inspected for safety.  Free helmets will be provided for children needing a helmet while supplies and sizes last.  Helmets are required for all riders.

There will be skilled cycling activities, cycling games and Rules of the Road lessons provided by the Field Institute of Taos coaches and instructors.  A limited number of loaner bikes will be available provided by the Field Institute of Taos.  Two hundred fifty gift bags will be given to the youth completing the activities and visiting the booths and games.  Mayor Pascualito Maestas will read the Bike Month Proclamation.  Lunch will be provided.

We will have free drawings for thirty-one (31) bicycles for participating participants youth.  Booths promoting a healthy community are provided by the Taos Mountain Bike Association, Taos Youth and Family Center, Taos Police Department/Taos Police Bike Team, Taos Fire Department, Taos Alive, and Taos County Fire and EMS.  Event parking will be available at the Taos Public Library and Enos Garcia East parking lot/school administration parking lots.  For more information contact Judy Esquibel at 575-751-2037 or at  Visit us at Town of Taos Events Facebook.
