Regular Municipal Elections are held the first Tuesday in March of even-numbered years. At the regular municipal elections, the main purpose is to elect the Mayor, Councilmembers and Municipal Judge, although sometimes a question may be placed on the regular election ballot. The Town Clerk is statutorily responsible for administering the Municipal Election.
The 2014 Regular Municipal Election will be for the election of:
- One Mayor, for a four year term
- Two Councilmembers, for a four year term
- One Municipal Judge, for a four year term
The 2016 Regular Municipal Election will be for the election of:
- Two Councilmembers, for a four year term
According to state statutes, to be eligible to vote a person must be a resident and be registered to vote within the municipal boundaries.
Voter registration is administered by the Taos County Clerk’s Office/Bureau of Elections located at 105 Albright Street Suite D, (575) 737-6400. To vote in the Municipal Election, you must be registered to vote within 28 days prior to the election date.
About three months prior to the Municipal Election, the Town Clerk begins posting additional information in the Taos News and on the Town’s website with regard to the election date, location of election, candidate filing date, early voting, etc.

The proposed budget and budget message, and all supporting schedules shall be a public record in the office of the Finance Director, open to public inspection by any interested citizen. The Finance Director shall cause the proposed budget to be printed or otherwise reproduced and sufficient copies thereof made available for use in all line departments. Interested citizens may obtain a copy of the budget from the Town at a cost to cover the cost of printing or online by clicking on the link below.

Ancianos is a non-profit organization that provides a variety of services to senior citizens 60 years of age and older, and their spouses, regardless of age in Taos County.
The Program is governed by an 11 member board which is made up of four (4) representatives from individual senior centers, a representative for the Foster Grandparent Senior Companion Volunteer Program, a representative from an undeserved and/or unserved geographical area, one representative from a civic orginization providing service to senior citizens and a member representing the Village of Questa, Town of Taos, and Taos County.

21. ...obtain a Liquor License or a Special Dispenser Permit?
You can get an application to obtain a Liquor License at the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department, Alcohol and Gaming Division or call them at (505) 476-4875 to obtain information.
Upon receiving preliminary approval from the Alcohol and Gaming Division Director, the Town Clerk will contact you to schedule a Public Hearing for the Town Council to consider your license. The Public Hearing must be published in the Taos News (paid by the applicant) for two consecutive weeks prior to the Hearing. Therefore, the Hearing is usually held 3 – 4 weeks after the Town Clerk receives the preliminary approval. If the license is approved by the Council, you may hand deliver the application to Alcohol and Gaming Division to obtain your license or the Town Clerk can mail the application if you are unavailable to hand deliver it. Once you receive your NM State issued license you must bring a copy to the Town Clerk’s Office (located at 400 Camino de la Placita) and pay the Municipal Liquor License Tax in the amount of $250.00. The tax may be pro-rated on a quarterly basis, depending on when final approval occurred.
SPECIAL DISPENSER PERMITS:
Special Dispenser Permits, sometimes called a picnic license, are used for functions such as wedding receptions, gallery openings, or community fiestas that are taking place off of a liquor licensed premises. These permits are not issued to private individuals; only the holder of Dispenser Liquor Licenses may apply for one.
All laws that apply on a normal licensed premise apply at the location of the Special Dispenser Permit.
Any applicant for a Special Dispenser Permit must submit a completed Town of Taos Special Dispenser Permit Application with the appropriate fees of $25.00 per day, along with an Alcohol and Gaming Division Special Dispenser Permit Application, a detailed floor plan, and a list of alcohol beverage certified servers who will be serving, to the office of the Town Clerk (400 Camino de la Placita) at least twelve (12) working days prior to the event. Upon approval by the Town (within 3 working days), the applicant must then submit the applications to Alcohol and Gaming Division for their final approval. Alcohol and Gaming Division requires the forms to be submitted at least 10 days prior to the event. The applicant must fax, email, or deliver to the Town Clerk’s Office a copy of the application signed and approved by Alcohol and Gaming Division.
PLEASE NOTE: Special Dispenser Permit Applications shall be formally approved by the Town Council if the number of expected attendees exceeds 500.

Regular Town Council agendas include a Citizens Forum in which citizens may come before the Mayor and Council during the meeting to share ideas or concerns. Each citizen is allowed five minutes (or less at the Mayor's discretion). You may sign up at the meeting to speak or you may submit the following request to be placed on the agenda in advance.
PLEASE NOTE: In order to be placed on the agenda in advance you must submit this request 11 days prior to the date of the Council Meeting.
